Antigone
Using music to tell the story
Sophocles’s Antigone is having a moment these days (see Helen Shaw in The New York Times) and I am not immune to the play’s charms. In fact, I’ve been working on my own adaptation, which also features an original score. The score will be released in May, but I’ve dropped a couple of singles in advance if you are interested.
The first, “Antigone (Main Title Theme)” b/w “Be Careful” is an exclusive on Bandcamp.
The one that released yesterday, “Murmuration” b/w “Dirce,” is on all the steaming services at https://soundsright.lnk.to/MurumurationDirce (though it’s actually not yet on Bandcamp; that will happen later today…I think….)
The score is fused with a number of styles: ambient, classical minimalism, electronica, and more. The two movements up on Bandcamp are more traditional; the two with a wider release are more odd, in part because they come later in the score and the music—like the play—becomes more discordant and chaotic as the action progresses.
I’d appreciate it if you take them for a spin.
